Pharmacological actions:
Allium sativum is used as medicine since many years ago and it's recommended primarily for its ability to lower cholesterol and blood pressure in the attempt to reduce the risk of dying prematurely from heart attack and stroke. Garlic contains active ingredient allicin which has cholesterol lowering action by reducing LDL markedly while HDL level rises. There are now over 12 well designed studies (meta-analysis) confirming that garlic in several forms can reduce cholesterol. Researchers in Oxford and America have stated that garlic supplement have an important part to play in the treat-ment of high cholesterol. After only 4 weeks of treatment, there's 12% reduction in total cholesterol and 17% reduction in triglycerides.

Spirulina has been used as nutritious food for many years. It's composed of protein, carbohydrate, essential fatty acid (gamma linoleic acid), vitamins and minerals. Effect of Spirulina on lipid profile pointed out that the Spirulina has effect of lowering serum LDL, triglycerides, atherogenic index while raising the serum HDL level. Therefore, Spirulina is not only a nutritious food but also has good effects to optimize the serum lipid profile.

By combining the spirulina and garlic, there are a lot of synergestic action, including in lowering the serum cholesterol, LDL and triglyceride, while increasing HDL effectively. The need of the dose of each item also reduced greatly in compared to that of the use of single item alone.
